High school competitors Chloe Foerster of Jesuit and Magdalene Williams of Summit battled again Saturday in the girls’ 800-meter invite on the second day of the Oregon Relays.
Foerster and Williams, both seniors, had a strong rivalry during last year’s season. On Saturday, Foerster finished with a time of 2 minutes, 5.80 seconds, beating Williams by 2.71 seconds. Williams finished with a time of 2:08.51.
“I’ve run now several races with Chloe. It’s kind of fun to see a familiar face,” said Williams. “Trying to hang with her. She’s such a strong athlete.”
Coming off the break, Foerster led the pack with Williams on her heels. Into the last 200 meters, Foerster and Williams broke from the group. Foerster’s slight kick brought her through to the finish.
“She caught up a bit around the 500, and you can just hear her behind you,” said Foerster. “I think that really helps push me a little bit more.”
This race Foerster was focused on time. She was hoping to break her personal record of 2:05.27 but missed it by just over a half of a second.
“In the future I want to run more of 2:02 and 2:03, but that’ll take some time to get there,” said Foerster.
