The Oregon women’s 4×100-meter relay team executed clean, crisp transitions on their hand-offs to win the Oregon Relays on Saturday afternoon – something that senior Kemba Nelson says comes with trust.
“Just trust their partner,” said Nelson. “Trust the mark … the sticks should pass efficiently when doing that.”
That trust culminated with Oregon crossing the tape in a time of 44.59 seconds. Nelson said Saturday’s focus was to “get the stick around and run through the zone.”
Shaniya Hall, who finished second in the 400 meters on Friday, started things off for the Ducks. Wisconsin’s Armoni Brown reached the exchange zone first out the blocks, completing the first handoff to teammate Ali Dorn. Nelson chased down Dorn, pulling ahead on the backstretch and establishing a lead that Oregon did not relinquish on the final legs run by Jadyn Mays and Jasmine Montgomery.
Wisconsin and Oregon State rounded out the small field, with finishing times of 45.96 seconds and 47.51 seconds, respectively.
