Men’s 110 hurdles: Ferguson gets second win

A day after breaking his personal record in the long jump, Oregon redshirt senior Trevor Ferguson won his second event with a wind-aided time of 14.28 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.

In the long jump, Ferguson hit 25 feet, 4 1/2 inches (his old record was 24-11.25). In the 110-meter hurdles, Ferguson’s personal record is 14.32.

Early in the race, Ferguson hit a hurdle with his trail leg, which slowed him down, but he was able to get his rhythm back in the middle of the race.

Kodie Artner of Lewis & Clark College took second place in 14.87. Concordia’s Patrick Contino finished third in 15.23 and Lane Community College’s Coleman Byrum finished fourth in 15.45.

Ferguson said his strategy was to just stay aggressive.

“The last couple of races I’ve been backing off towards the end,” he said. “So I’ve been trying to stay on it towards the end.”

Ferguson said that the long jump and the hurdles are complementary and are able to keep him balanced.

“Each event makes me stronger in other events,” Ferguson said. “It’s more balanced.”

For the rest of the season, Ferguson’s goals are to score team points, keep improving in the long jump and finish the 110-meter hurdles in 14 seconds.

“I want to make 14-flat. I’ll get there,” he said.
