Catch up with Day 1 at the Prefontaine Classic

– Mo Farah stormed to victory in the 10,000 meters during Day 1’s Distance Night at the Prefontaine Classic. He executed a furious kick in the final 50 meters, finishing in 26:53.71.

– Sandra Perkovic won the women’s discus, throwing 224 feet, 11 inches to hold off Germany’s Nadine Muller.

– Alysia Montano took first in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:00.80.

– Reigning 2012 Olympic champion Brittney Reese had her winning jump on her first attempt of the women’s long jump.

– In the high school girls’ 400-meter dash, Sammy Watson took the top spot in 53.21.

– Keshun Reed took first in the boys’ 400-meter dash, beating out the rest of the field by nearly a second. He finished in 46.71.

– Joe Kovacs extended his world lead in the shot put with a winning throw of 72 feet, 7 ¼ inches.

– The Kenyan women’s distance contingent used the 5,000 meters as a measuring stick for the upcoming 2016 Olympics.

Here are four events to look for in during Day 2 of the Pre Classic. Action gets underway at 12 p.m. Pacific time at Hayward Field.
