Big Move on Final Lap Propels Luis Peralta to Second Place in 1,500 meters

Oregon redshirt sophomore Luis Peralta moved from fifth to second in the last lap of the men’s 1,500 meters on Friday night at the Hayward Premiere, finishing second to Wichita State’s Adam Moore.

Peralta, who competes internationally for the Dominican Republic, pulled ahead of Chris Morzenti of Portland and teammate Aaron Bienenfeld for a time of 3:46.97, just over 2 seconds behind Moore’s 3:44.93 finish. The time was just 1.4 seconds shy of his personal best, which he ran last year at the West Coast Classic.

He is coming off a seventh-place finish in the 800 meters in the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships and is the seventh-fastest Duck of all time in the 800.

The redshirt sophomore was part of the Oregon relay team that, last April, ran the fastest distance medley relay time in world history. Peralta ran the 400 meter leg, contributing to a 9:19.42 finish alongside teammates Cole Hocker, Charlie Hunter, and Cooper Teare at the 2021 Razorback Invitational.
