Oregon’s Colleen Uzoekwe the 2019-20 Gatorade Oregon Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, finished second in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 2 inches Friday night in the Hayward Premiere — by half an inch.
Winning with a jump of 19-2 1/4 feet was Uzoekwe’s teammate, Dominique Ruotolo.
“That’s the best way to lose,” Uzoewke said. “It’s great to see her win.”
In two weeks, the redshirt freshman will compete in her first heptathlon. While the sprints and jumps are the strong suit for Uzoekwe, shot put and the 800 meters are new challenges.
“Yes, I’m nervous,” Uzoekwe said.
